Gaza is a Palestinian region on the eastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea. It borders Egypt on the southwest for 13 kilometres and Israel on the east and north along a 59 kilometre border.
At 360 square kilometres, Gaza is home to a population of more than 1.5 million people, including 1.1 millionPalestinian refugees.
That means there are a lot of people in a very small area. For perspective, Adelaide is 1,827 square kilometres and home to 1.2 million people. It accounts for 5.72% of Australia’s total population.
Gaza City, the largest urban centre of the strip, is reportedly the 40th most densely populated area in the world.
